I think this is a load of bull-crap. They have said time and again that a big contributor to the size of this game is the uncompressed audio.

Now, with the Cell CPU being so good at decompressing data, one would think that at least they'd use a lossless audio compression algorithm (such as FLAC), which can cut the audio size by 50% without ANY loss in quality (much like zip/rar compression, it can recover the original data with 100% accuracy).

This is not to mention the fact that the vast majority of people don't have the audio equipment or ears to actually tell the difference between lossless and lossy audio (at decent bitrates, such as 192-320 Kbits/s for MP3).
