Having prerendered videos doesn't challenge the Cell like in-game rendering would. Also, all we have is the whole 1080p thing. The only way we'll know if the videos are prerendered or in-game is when we get more detail...if they release the information anyway. I'd still put down my PSP and sell my PS3 if they did the double-over thing, but I wouldn't really feel that way with the prerendered stuff.

Sony needs the PR. The PS3 is gaining momentum, and if you were heading that, you would want it to keep gaining momentum. I guess it's kind of like showing "See? Blu-ray's space can be taken up". They're giving it their all, and it seems to be working. The PS3's sales are greatly improving(though I don't think so much in Japan...still better than the 360's...but low) and I don't see as much bashing of it anywhere else. People are impressed. Having prerendered cutscenes doesn't make it any less of a game to me....because you don't do anything in cutscenes anyway.

Is advertising their products ability bad? In-game rendering may be cheaper and save space...but if a company wants their customers to have the best quality possible, why not prerender it? This may be for PR on Sony's part...but in the end, I don't see what's bad about putting out quality to the customer.

Nobody is saying how bad this is coming from Kojima or Sony, we are discusting if there is a real need of space for this kind of games or games in general, or this is just a way to promote the Sony products...

Of course sony need more good press, and this sounds like one of these.. is bad??? nop, is addresing a real issue in the game industry???

And I have no problems with the prerendered videos either, looks good, and they can put on it, its ok, but he said something like "their are forcing us (asking us, paying us, we are forced by contrac etc)" and then the tone changes after the dead of the hd-dvd??? is kinda suspicious, thats all...

And with the power of da cell, I mean: "this can be done in the 360" ...

@ Auron

He is right, the game involves a lot of cut scenes, sometimes you kill a boss a then, pump 10 minutes hearing how bad you really are...

I don't think Sony is really "forcing" him. Honestly, Kojima Productions has even been saying Kojima wants 1080p really, really bad. I really think of this as a "He wants to" kind of thing...Hell, if MGS4 was only 25.01GB, I bet Kojima would still put it on the Dual-layer because he's just that kind of guy. I honestly trust that all the cutscenes are in-game. This is Kojima, and he's not one to let the man tell him what to do. Afterall, I heard he got pissed about the MGS2 port to the Xbox...though I'm going by what someone on another forum said, he's a major fan of MGS.

This is the last game, maybe there is just a lot of content on it...maybe Kojima wanted Snake to go out with a bang. We won't know until the game comes out, but I think I can trust Kojima.

Yeah forcing in the industry can mean a lot of things... But hey, he said, clearly, not me...

The whole "cut-scene are in game" is already debunked, there is a couple of trailers out there and all look prerendered, most of the people agree with that, if you don't believe me, compare the quality of the light, shadows, cloth simulation, and face gestures of the trailers vs the game demos... (The shadow maps look really bad in some places, but is a old demo...)...

I don't pretend to discuss this any further, so far we have two Kojima statemens, both are not mutually exclusive, and the only thing we can do know is wait...

MGS can be fulled of uncompressed 7.0 audio + tons of hd prerendered videos, or been the longest game evar, what does it sound more likely???

Neither. Full of 60 hours of UNCOMPRESSED 7.0 audio. I have a feeling the audio is taking up a huge chunk of this. Just like with Heavenly sword, 10GB of the game was audio....2/3 of the game was audio. All that there is for you guys to go by are the videos, just like all I have to go by is Kojima's word. But let me ask you this, what all does a in-game video have to be processed compared to actual in-game controlling? When you are moving around with the controller, that has to be processed as well as other values...ammo, the position of the bullets as you shoot them and stuff like that. I

n-game rendering is just a bunch of polygons with textures loaded onto them with sound going along with it. There are no other values to be calculated. Also, in-game a much bigger area is probably loaded for you to move around in while in-game rendered videos can just be in one area of the game and not have all the rest of that area loaded. In-game rendering of videos doesn't take as much power as the actual playing of the game. More textures need to be loaded for the much wider and bigger area to move around in for the actual playing of the game. Did any of you ever consider this?

EDIT: My bad, got my math wrong on Heavenly Sword....I was thinking about a single-layer HD-DVD for some reason. That should be 2/5 instead for a single layer BD...it's 12:30 here...I should be in bed and I only had 4 hours of sleep last time I slept. Sorry for the incorrect statement.
