Or maybe it's just the fact that Nintendo never owned those franchises, Rare did.

Nintendo would have had to have owned the franchises in order to sell them, it didn't.  It had a minority stake in Rare, not a majority.  And when offered the chance to own Rare outright, Nintendo declined.

I know rare owened them, but Nintendo ended up selling their share instead of buying it outright. 

The point ism it is funny when people say a franchise is irrelevant but when there is a chance it is coming to their platform suddenly its big news. Hint it is not the OP.
