Yes 60fps is always good. But I would like to point out that what is most importantly smooth in 60fps is the responsiveness of the game. Because the more fps the more it reduces in theory the input lag of any game. But some 30fps games have low input lag and some 60fps have not a so low input lag.
For instance I am replaying Metroid Prime on the Wii. But even with 60fps there is some lag added compared to the gamecube game, IMO, because of the Wii remote which has more input lag by default compared to a DS3 pad or a gamecube one (but the game is still awesome).
That's why I am not so dogmatic on this frame per second aspect (since I have seen PAL 25FPS footage,perfectly in sync, as smooth as 60FPS one and I am very sensitive to stuttering shown on games and movies), the most important IMO is the responsiveness of the game.

The good news is that both the new consoles will have their input lag reduced on their new controllers. Maybe this subject would need its own thread...
