There was nothing ethically wrong with Microsoft's decisions. They were  moving console gaming into the future. It would have made console gaming more like PC gaming(can't resell PC games), actually with some cool additional sharing features which barely exist in most PC games. (with a few rare exceptions - i.e. spawning in StarCraft)

Also, there's nothing unethical about require an internet connection. My computer, phone, and tablet all lose 95% of their functionality if they aren't online... why not my console?
