The problem with measuring the leap between generations is that if you say Gen 6 (GBA) to Gen 7 (PSP) was the greatest leap, you're only looking at one console in the 7th gen. If you're looking at the whole generation, you should take all consoles into account, so it would be the leap from GBA to both DS and PSP.

And if you're looking at one console to the next, PSP was not the next console after the GBA. The two have nothing to do with one another. Nor does the N64 have anything to do with the PS2, nor the PS1 with the GC, and I don't know why you would compare those, either.

Otherwise I would say the upcoming console generation is the greatest leap ever by far because we're going all the way from the Wii to the PS4.


Not if you compare the most powerful system from one generation to the next generation's most powerful system. Was there another system in the same portable generation of the GBA that was more powerful than it? If not, than the comparison to GBA to PSP is valid just as PSP to Vita is valid.  N64 to GCN or Xbox is valid too as is GCN/Xbox to PS3/Xbox360.

Also you wouldnt compare Wii to PS4 but Xbox360/PS3 to PS4 depending on which system you think was more powerful but they seem pretty much the same to me - its obvious that the Wii was the weakest of the three so you wouldnt compare it to the PS4 (assuming the PS4 is the most powerful system).

 

Unless of course the OP was being vague on the topic discussion and should of stated from one system of the same brand/producer to the next.

This would be no more (or less) useful than comparing the least-powerful console between successive generations... in this case, GBA and DS. Which again points to GBA-PSP being an irrelevant comparison without also considering the DS.
