One thing a lot of people miss is that Obhama has to maintain as balanced of a ticket as he possibly can. If Obhama pairs himself with someone who is as liberal as he is, he will put himself in a position where he has given up the middle ground and left the moderate (and independant) voters open for McCain; at this point I would expect McCain to partner himself with someone much more conservative than himself in order to capture the conservatives and fight for the moderate (and independant) voters in this situation.
