If you only buy high rated games then you are selling yourself short. Some of the best games around don't score well with reviewers. Sometimes a game is a ton of fun despite some technical flaws or falling into a niche genre. I'd say find a way to rent games on the cheap and see if they are good or not rather than listen to some random reviewers. Metal Slug Anthology and Culdcept Saga are two of my favorite games and they scored low 70s average. Metroid Prime 3 is one of my least favorite and it scored high 80s/low 90s.
