I loved most of them in spite of random battles which goes to show you just how great those games were. But without a doubt, random battles are just, no lol. I don't see how ANYONE can enjoy them. Imo, probably the most annoying thing ever created gaming wise. |
Random battles is part of the FF games, removing them gave you too much freedom essentially fight what you know you could, making the game easy. I mean, when playing FF7 did no one enjoy the shear terror of going through Gaea's Cliff and hoping to god you didn't meet an Ochu because you knew you hadn't saved it in about an hour?
Also, with all FF games that don't have random battles, I felt I needed to grind a lot more to keep up as half the time I was just running past enemies. In 5 to X-2 I never once felt like my characters were too weak to continue the game. Loss of self contained battle arenas as well, made it so (in FFXII at least) pimp out your characters before battle, casting haste, protect and the works, while in older games, each game you started mostly with a clean slate and had to protect yourself before working out how to defeat enemies.
Hmm, pie.
