Also BTW, Sony TVs are not made by Samsung, but rather they are built in recently built factory owned by both Sony and Samsing, so there isn't really anything to choose between Sony and Samsung TVs. TBH, if you're buying a TV now, and you can afford it, I'd go for at least an HD Ready 720p screen, because it's unlikely you won't replace it for another 5 years atleast (we still have a about 9 year old Sony Bravia), and by then HD content should be more prevalent, and you'll be able to take advantage of it. I mean here in the UK you can already watch BBC programmes in HD. |
Sony dropped plasma because it was not cost effective for them. They were using Fujitsu panels and at the time they were very expensive and are very limiting on size. Also plasmas dont need to be replaced in 5 years. The very first plasmas were very poor quality, but the ones out today have none of the problems the first gens did. Burn in is a non issue now, as are black levels and color reproduction....both of which are far better than LCD.
