I havent had a virus/maleware/spyware for years.
All you need is Eset Nod32 (Written in machine code, so it's fast.), Firefox with AdBlock Plus! and some common sense and you will be free from such hassles.
Don't forget Real Time Strategy games (StarCraft, Planetary Annihilation etc'.), Turn-Based Strategy Games (Civilisation, Heroes of Might and Magic etc') and Indie (Massive choice), Multi-Platforms (Which look and perform far better.) as well as mods like Feed The Beast/Tekkit for Minecraft or DayZ for Arma, literally adds hundreds of hours to a game, with no cost. Heck, entire new game franchises have spawned from mods, like Left 4 Dead.
You have a far larger choice of games on the PC too, arguably, something for everyone, several decades worth of game releases does that to a platform. If you like the TV and controller, then you have choice with that too, set up voice recognition, Steam+Big picture mode and a wireless Xbox/Playstation controller and you're set.
Plus over the long term you also save money with the PC even accounting for the initial and long term hardware costs, games are far cheaper (Never bought one at full price, ever!), free online and Steam is more convenient in that it updates all your games automagically in the background, rather than having to deal with it when you play a game. - Literally just click and play.

Since I trade in a lot of games the saving money argument with pc is not always true. Steam is convenient but after buying a new laptop I now have to budget which games I install per month due to annoying bandwidth cap. It's click, have a lot of patience, then play. First download for a long time, then install directx, update drivers, couple more install steps. Then if you don't have the latest gpu find a good balance between performance and looks, which you usually have to adjust a couple of times during play. And several times now Steam prompted me it has to convert local game files for an update, I click go ahead, and it times out with a no connection error. No play. Couple days later it worked, not convenient at all.
So I use pc mostly for indie games and play the big games on consoles, costs less time and bandwidth, plus money back for the next game if it doesn't turn out to be a keeper.
Anyway I haven't had a virus either in years, and still haven't according to my virus scanner. Maybe my isp is wrong. I've downloaded trend micro free scan which is running now, nothing found yet. I can give Eset Nod32 a trial run next. Frustrating.
