I don't know about other people, but I think the gameplay to them sucks. The controls are loose arcade style so you just run through, jump kick zombies down or kill zombies in different ways. You have your baseball bat type weapons(pipe, laser sword, etc,) your throwing weapons, some weapons that kill zombies in a unique way. You can get a car or on a tricycle and run zombies over, but it's all just very boring. The single player game really has no substance. Basically. Dead Rising is a GTA style open worldness to it without a good game added to it. If you're not interested in screwing around, you're pretty much going to be bored because the main game is ass. The third game could be better, but my opinion on the other two, and this game being in the same series, I really have no interest whatsoever. |
Of course this is all opinion, but I found Dead Rising's series great games. The story is great, (though cheesy sometimes) gameplay is solid, killing soundtrack and relatively nice graphics (though sucky performance sometimes). You just talked about one of the things you can do, which is screwing around, but there's just more to it: getting to where you're supposed to go (in order to keep moving forward in the story), saving survivors (or killing them), changing clothes, mixing weapons (introduced in the second game), defeating bosses and discovering secret areas and scenes. The game gives a great value, but I can understand why some people can't stand the gameplay (zombies mess with you way too much since there are a lot in screen, which reduces the flow of the gameplay, and the timer). I, for example, are more hyped for DR3 than for Deep Down, and it's not a matter of because one is exclusive to the console I'll own, but just that I enjoy and love the series.
