Because of Far Cry 2, I don't think I'll buy a game from this franchise ever again! I hated that game. I just want to drive the one car available without some one trying to kill me! 

I played and completed both games. Far Cry 3 is much much better. Everything annoying about Far Cry 2 is not in this one. No malaria! Once you take over a stronghold, people don't try to kill you. The story is alot better also. You get free weapons from climbing up telephone masts, no diamonds needed. You can also craft health packs with plants now, instead of having to go to a church to get pills. There is also animals out there to hunt. Trust me Far Cry 3 was far better than Far Cry 2, shame there ain't no demo for you try out.
