I honestly don't think the wii mini is a good comparison.  That was launched after the metaphorical death of the Wii.  The 2DS is launching in the prime of the 3DS life, in conjunction with one of the most popular series there is.

Also, and I think, more importantly, 2DS has internet functionality lol.  Wii Mini was an off-line Wii.
