I would seriously not choose a plasma until the technology has improved. ATM they don't last any more than 5 years then they have to be replaced, which was why SOny dropped them. Also BTW, Sony TVs are not made by Samsung, but rather they are built in recently built factory owned by both Sony and Samsing, so there isn't really anything to choose between Sony and Samsung TVs.

TBH, if you're buying a TV now, and you can afford it, I'd go for at least an HD Ready 720p screen, because it's unlikely you won't replace it for another 5 years atleast (we still have a about 9 year old Sony Bravia), and by then HD content should be more prevalent, and you'll be able to take advantage of it. I mean here in the UK you can already watch BBC programmes in HD.
