The Last of Us is good, but there's nothing exceptional about it. When it's averaging 95 on Metacritic, we all know it's going to sweep the GOTY awards, and people are clamoring that it's really the Game Of The Generation, that's as overrated as it gets.
Show me how many GOTY awards Twilight Princess and Brawl won. Show me the throngs of fans calling them Game Of The Generation because they had a lot of feels when Midna left at the end. They have a high Metascore. Higher than they deserve? That depends on who you ask. I wouldn't drop either of them by more than 5 points, whereas I wouldn't argue with someone if they called The Last of Us a 7/10.
Pokémon is a really curious entry on this list, since its main games average in the 80-90 range on Metacritic, and it rarely if ever wins any kind of awards. It also has a lot of depth, and is (as far as I know) the only RPG with a thriving competitive scene rivaling those of popular fighting games.
