A friend of mine made a lewd joke about the Shmoo the other day (not worth repeating), but that was the first time I'd thought of Shmoo in many many years too.
I remember Captain Caveman, Shmoo, and The Thing for the Fantastic Four were all in the Flintstones for a year. Yeah, the Thing in the Flintstones... He was a teenager and had a ring that would turn him into the Thing "Thing Ring do Your Thing!" Oh, yes... it was lame.
