So you honestly think they decided on a whim to make every X1 a future dev kit and create id@xbox program? Regarding other things they have done a 180 (DRM and Kinect requirement) but this is something that they have had big plans for all along. Sony and MS are taking two different approaches to indie delevopment, the difference is that MS has a much larger platform for indies to develop on (including PC) which makes them quite attractive. Being extreme and saying Sony is 10X better isn´t really helping your argument either :). Regarding the focus on TV implementation and such, it doesn´t really have anything to do with this issue, especially since Sony is investing heavily in that area aswell. MS and Sony are both after your hard earned cash, we will see who is most succesful in doing so, only time will tell. |
At this point I don't think that even they know what they wanted to do and what they actually are doing with the XO. The fact is, they fell behind in indie department no matter how attractive they may seem, so joking that you shouldn't be like your competition that you are trailing is just lame.
About the TV - obviously Sony also wants it, but if you saw the PS4 and XO conferences, you could see a different approach. MS was betting on TV, while Sony made the bet on indies. Ms showed us a TV show, while Sony showed us a couple of indie games. They've spent similar time talking about the respective two during their conferences. Which company made the proper bet? Considering MS again made a 180 here as well and started talking about indies not mentioning TV anymore, we know the answer.
All in all I have to give it to Sony, they are handling the launch perfectly. This is the most professional approach ever, especially when compared to what MS is doing. They haven't made a single mistake so far, even when they had weaker games at a given time (at E3), they've managed to destroy their competition. The negative effect of this (for Sony, good for us) is that they are forcing MS to make XO their own policies better, which is happening, but I guess they couldn't forsee just how much they'd destroy XO at E3. Wonder how this will all play out in a year or two :) Who's gonna have the upper hand when they finally start selling the bloody things and the emotions cool down a bit, cause we'll already see what the consoles really offer and which one is better.
Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!
