Do you need a description of only the Vita version; or a description of Atelier in general?
Rutea's probably the best person to give a reply to that, but I'll back it up a bit with my own thoughts.
It's a very cute game. The story isn't the usual world-saving stuff - it's very small-scale and self contained. The combat is turn-based and surprisingly decent. Exploring the world is done through choosing locations on a map, which you can then visit and collect materials to use for alchemy. The game runs on a set timer; so you can go to certain places at certain times to see special events.
I was very surprised how much I like the Atelier games. They're a good change of pace from the usual JRPG's.
