I have a friend that preordered 13 PS4 and 3 XBones just to make profit. A bit before release date he'll try to sell them at a higher cost and whatever he can't sell he'll just cancel his preorders. Simple as that. Big retailers don't ask for any downpayment nor have to agree on purchasing the product if preordered so there's no risk really.
My only thought is that Sony is really trying to push out alot of shipment for launch and probably wanting every sale from it so it may be easier for costumers to find in store rather than paying a higher price on ebay.
