I agree with Game boy, but since both him and i know hardly anyone installs Linux and 95% of people still think that IE is the safest browser I am going to give you 3 free trials for anti virus software you can use for 30 days. All can be used to the full extent and don't take away features, so you get the real deal. Updates and all.
http://www.eset.com/download/free_trial_download_int.php Get the smart security one. I personally use that one and highly recommend it.
http://www.kaspersky.com/internet_security_trial Kaspersky is the though guy. Extremely good, but a bit hard on system resources (still way lighter then Mcaffee or norton). Highly recommended by several well rated websites though.
http://www.bitdefender.com/site/Downloads/ Bitdefender, a well known and trusted solution. Get the total protection.
This will keep you busy for the next few months. Then decide afterwards instead of blindly following some internet article. I do suggest getting Firefox and ad block. I also use no script myself, but it can be a bit tough to love. First get used to FF and ad block.
http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/products/firefox/ That's Firefox.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865 That's ad block, you'll love that one.
