What does Sony/soft need to do to finally take Nintendo out this Gen?

Well, first they need to get up the courage to ask them. Pay them a compliment and suggest they go to a nice restaurant, a movie... maybe for a walk in the park afterwards.

If Sony or Microsoft are lucky enough to take Nintendo out a second time, they should definitely bring flowers then.
