Ok, ethomas, now I can give you a little more edge in this debate.
However what you are point is a very small issue with a very-very small impact in the overall system performance.
Since 2008 I have been hearing of how Apple, Google and Microsoft are keen to jump into the SOCs solutions. MS decision to make a gargantuam dice is a well thought out movement. It could be a disaster the size o W-Vista, but we can´t know beforhand .
It could mean that Microsoft want to use its knowhow and use the same approach with the next Surface or a Windows Phone. The same way Apple are tring to depart from Samsung and others in their chips.
PS:You are overlooking all other layers that will hidde the intrinsic complexity (OS, drives and APIs). Even though those layers are as much complex as the SOCs .
