Sony was always pretty good at being a designer and manufacturer of parts for other countries. So for them to get back to that is a good thing. They should probably drop the Xperia line and and move the resources to focus more on this as it is far more profitable for them.

they shouldn't drop the xperia line, as sales for the xperia line are SIGNIFICANTLY higher than a year ago... and continue to grow...

the z1 takes a dump on the s4

I agree.

They will never be able to compete sales wise with the top 2 but any number of other compnaies could be top3.  I expect Sony and Nokia to be in and out of the top 3 and top 4 regularly over the coming years.

Btw, lots of phones are, as a whole, better than the S4 imo (dump isnt the right word really is it), the Xperia X1 is better, my current nokia is also better imo.  They are a better whole experience, pleasing hardware in the hand is  big thing for me.... no samsung has ever had that up to now for me.  People are obsessed by tech stats as if they actually matter to most people or in most circumstances.

they do matter though, as tech stats, and gimmicks like gestures and the android operating system being more open as caused a flood of i users to jump onto samsung....

when I sell a cell phone(I sell cell phones by the way), I immediately point out the major differences between an iphone 5 and an S 4, the screen resolution/ the camera/ the processing power/ screen size/ the fact it's a way better all in one device than an iphone.

the Z1 will be better than any and most android phones to date, on paper, and possibly on the design front, the WATER PROOF tech is what's going to be a seller, that and the 20MP camera with the Snap dragon 800 prcoessor..... many people are going to have to pick between the NOTE III, iphone 5s, LG G2, and that's it really as the S4 and HTC ONE would be inferior devices compared to the Z1 and G2.

Sony's fuck up, is advertising, I am suprised at how WELL they are advertising with t mobile here in the states, and how the xpera z is actually selling well in the states based on observation, and how people are interested because of the 13MP plus water resistance,  especially since the active had to drop it's camera spec to 8MP, but it's still a snap dragon 400 phone, and is not on par with the S4, sony have to be the better device in order to steal market share, and they have to market that.... when the Z came out world wide it was a top 2 or 3 phone in the world, but then the HTC ONE came out along with the S4, now sony have the advantage of being #1 first. For the first time ever in smart phones

Features and benefits should be married and are different for different consumers.

You sell features that will benefit the consumer standing in front of you and you should never sell on personal preference.

I trained sales people for years, not for phones, but for extremely expensive items and services.

I'd have an iPhone 5 over a Samsung every day (I have nether by the way).  The overall experience is better for me.  So you could flog the features of the S4 all day long.... you'd simply end up losing me as a customer.

I don't flog anyting up to any customer honey, and it's fine you trained people for years, as I've causes people to change their training methods because of my performance, but that's besides the point.....

it's objectivity vs ignorance, one is superior period, to the other.... it's like this, I want a ps2 because the ps2 is sony and it's just put the game and go, the 360 I don't like it because it's not sony and you have to move through menus sometimes to play a game, so no 360.....

I'm not going to force anything on anyone....

but I definately will let you know about what you're buying, and what you're not getting or are getting as a result

Selling people a phone at a cell phone store is the easiest sales job in the world.  Selling them the phone that is the best for them is a whole different thing.  Most people with even a small amount of salesmanship can sell the phone, the charger cord, the monthlymaint service, the cover.  Most people know they want that before they get there.  But if you actually qualified them by asking appropriate questions about the cellphones actual use, most people would actually fit into the iphone realm(ignorant person looking for a phone that they can read email and surf the net and play angry birds and make phone calss/texts).  Iphones in general are theasiest dumbed down smartphone out there.  I have owned one, but would never own another one.  Point is, shouldn't you sell the average person an iphone rather than an android phone that has half a dozen features that they don't want or could even figure out how to use?  This is more of a comment on society rather than you personally.
