I do not think you are really looking for a real explanation but if you really want to educate yourself; you can use Bing (or Google I guess looking at your post history and the "love" you have for Microsoft) and look at what Microsoft Azure / Amazon S3 or even Google Computing (in preview). Nothing to do with Gaikai or anything like that even if some forum experts claim it is the same.

Computing instances and VCPUs is all about what Microsoft is envisioning, nothing remotely close to what Gaikai or Online are... And YES, computing instances can obviously act as a dedicated servers so it will be mostly used by for that as it does not requires any special codes or synchronization patterns in the games... For every console out there Microsoft is giving the dev. (and the game) 3 vCPUs in the so called cloud (computing instance in their datacenter); and the dev can use those vCPUs to do anything (IA, pre-rendering of lightning for huge scene, pre-processing stuff, on-going calculation of the game world, etc... anything).

This thread will just be another bashing fest anyway, good job we did not have enough of these lately!

It sounds like you make me out to be some member of the XBOX tribe, and any questioning posts you are calling me on as showing a lack of loyalty.  I am not part of any tribe, and if you see any of my recent posting history, you can see I am not on the XBox bandwagon now.  I don't own any current gen console either, but do own a 3DS (and the OUYA and Neo-Geo X systems I have I don't consider current gen).

By the way, I had googled it, but find Microsoft has not said much outside of spin cloud into the realm of blast processing.

This thread becoming a bashing fest is just reality, nothing to do with you being in a "tribe" or not.

Also I took the time to explain (in bold) what was cloud computing in my post but you focused on your "tribe" thing and on the fact that this thread would become a bashing fest. So for me, you are not interrested into understanding what the cloud computing instances can bring to the Xbox One / PS4. And this is why I believe you are not really interrested by an anwser and you already made your oppinion about it.

Now even if you ignored 80% of my post, If you really Googled for Microsoft Azure and Cloud Computing, then you should know what it is and what it can bring to the developpers (in general, not only on Xbox One but also on PS4). If you failed to see that while Googling, then I do not know what else to tell you; it becomes a matter of oppinion at this point.

Understanding the point of my post would help.  The main thrust of it is people getting hyped about the concept without even understanding it.  You saw that the Forza 5 video was rolled out, as evidence of the power.  And what you saw with Forza 5 was merely ease to administer dedicated servers.  The lead on Forza 5 even said this.  It is drinking a bunch of buzzword kool-aid, without understanding.  The core of cloud now, in a practical sense is dedicated servers.  And Microsoft is hyping that.

And the tribe thing came up, because you referenced what you perceived as a stand on consoles was.

And yes, I had googled cloud computing.  It keeps coming up as the virtualization of the management of servers, so you run a pool virtually, making it easier to scale.  There is SOME stuff that would be like what was discussed with grid, but that is not the core of how industry is using it.  The core of it is pretty much client-server, virtualized.  And I did post THIS link on VGChartz (or something like it), regarding the difference:

http://www.vservercenter.com/dedicated-server

And here is my google search:

http://www.google.com/#psj=1&q=cloud+computing+vs+dedicated+server

And if you want to compare it vs grid, you have this:
