For the price of a standard Micro USB cable, you can charge the Xbox One controller or use it as a wired controller.
However, that said. The Xbox One will only charge using a Micro USB cable if the Microsoft rechargable battery is installed. Alkaline or rechargable AA batteries won't recharge in the controller using the Micro USB cable.
