The idea of used digital games is more or less a way for companies to entice people to go completely digital since one of the things many people love about physical copies is that you can get something back from selling them off. It's really a push to eliminate physical copies. If companies like Microsoft can provide people an option to get something back from the games they currently own by giving up their license to the game, it makes it more likely that they will continue to purchase digital and thus drive us faster to a day when companies like Gamestop are out of business or mostly irrelevant with the exception of hardware. The downside is for people who buy used to get cheaper copies of a game. This system doesn't help them. To be honest, the louder complaints regarding DRM that I heard were coming more from people who wanted to be able to sell their games and less from people who just wanted cheaper copies.
