The PS3 80gb version was temporarily in stock this morning, and jumped to #3 in Video Games on the Amazon chart. It then sold back out, and displayed a (Available on March 8, 2008) message. Hope that explains it better. Now while amazon is not a good indicator of total sales, I believe it is a good measurement tool for demand. #6+#12 vs #40+#70 with no current sales says something IMO.
