ioi was kidding. Copyright applies to specific creative arrangements of text/images/music, not the ideas and facts contained within them. You don't need permission to take information from another source, unless you copy large portions of text/images directly from that source (small amounts, like a few paragraphs, are still ok). The worst they could be accused of is plagiarism, which isn't illegal and which doesn't apply here since they clearly cited their source. This kind of free sharing of facts is the basis of all journalism and academics.
