Sony and MS will definitely use it because they both also try to be media players, and if it is already built in they will use it for the games.
Nintendo will use a knock-oof as some have said. Using HD-DVD would be a neat trick to avoid piracy and get a format on the cheap. But since the system wont play movies it realyl wont matter what they make the games on. There is also a chance they will try and stick out DVD for one more generation (Yuk).
Downloaded games are not there yet. Yes next genertaion might allow us to download most games and there may be an alternate no disc sku, but these companies don't want to limit any consumers from buying their stuff. Broadband penetration and spees in the US are terrible and they will only be slightly better in 5-10 years.
Considering that the next systems specs are be decided on right now I imagine Blu-Ray winning will expedite the decision process .
Final* Word on Game Delays:
The game will not be any better or include more content then planned. Any commnets that say so are just PR hogwash to make you feel better for having to wait.
Delays are due to lack of proper resources, skill, or adequate planning by the developer.
Do be thankful that they have enough respect for you to delay the game and maintain its intended level of quality.
