Simply put, don't fall victim. to 'Damage control' PR by Microsoft. Make your own choice, but mark my words it will be a foolish one.

1.) Games. I hear this all the time. "Xbox one has killer launch titles!!" We have no idea how the games will turn out, at all. The only thing we can judge by right now is track record. When you look at that track record the fact that with the Xbox 360 Microsoft hasn't released a AAA (90+ rated) exclusive full-fledged title for the Xbox not named Halo, Gears, Forza since 2006. Really take a step back and think about that before you talk about games and Microsoft. Specifically look at how well the console is supported through it's lifetime. Sony always supports their consoles, Microsoft has proven that they will only support their console if it's providing maximum profit to them.

2.) Hardware Longevity. How can't you be slightly concerned with a software company who has consistently had issues creating hardware that's either fundamentally viable or competitive with their peers. Original Xbox was a huge money pit because of their poor design choices. Xbox 360 had massive RROD failures due to their poor design choices. Xbox One, the book is unwritten yet again it appears they basically got less of a system than their competitor. I believe their inexperience in the hardware market is actively visible and has been. This hardware longevity is definitely a concern when the desire is to takeover your living room entirely.

3.) Price.

4.) Popularity. Early indications seem to indicate that the PS4 will have a far greater audience to start initially. Which means most likely a superior online experience.

Lol at some Sony fans. Simply put lol. I really hope you get him to not convert and you're getting paid for it.

Lol all you'd like.

Point 1 (While games are subjective, the general consensus is outside of Gears , Forza, Halo and Multiplatforms Microsoft dropped the ball in terms of developing quality exclusive games for their users).

Point 2 - Not really sure what you could debate about. Microsoft has proven themselves downright unable to produce quality hardware without completely overspending.  Basically spending more for less and when they don't go that route, they have tremendous hardware issues.

Points 3 and 4 are simply not debatable.

I've owned all Microsoft systems, All Playstation systems and All Nintendo systems as well as several gaming PCs.  I'd say I'm far more than a Sony fan.  I'm a fan of quality gaming systems.  Frankly the 360 hasn't been one in 4 years.  When buying a console, buy a console that you can envision yourself playing in 6-7 years.  Not one with a few better mediocre launch titles.

Point 1 hasn't stopped me from having fun on 360 at all. Now if that was the only games that ever released for the system you'd have a point.

Point 2 I haven't had a problem with my system in 3 years and the original Xbox was a well put together

machine. Also you forgot to mention that Sony doesn't have the most reliable systems either.

Point 3 SO, gaming is expensive whichever you choose.

Point 4 superior online because it's more popular?? Lol

That other stuff you said is irrelevant. I mean are you telling him that he won't have fun with his Xbox purchase? If so How in the hell would you know? You guys talk all this crap about exclusive this and exclusive that but guess what a ton of people don't even care. They still have fun on the 360 without your exclusives. I do every time.

Isn't having fun the way you want the purpose of video games? The only response that would be fitting for his thread should really be hope you have fun. My opinion anyway.

I never said he wouldn't have fun.  I just think it's a choice he will regret, period.  For the reasons listed.

Microsoft will likely produce less quality games long term.  Microsoft is quite possibly more likely to have a rash of issues with their hardware or simply provide inferior hardware at the same or higher cost as a result of their ineptitude in the hardware realm. (As evidence already by the numerous rumors regarding overheating, etc).  Just because your Xbox has worked for 'Three years' doesn't mean anything.  How about 4,5,6 years?  I've gone through 4 Xbox 360 systems and that's not incredible hardcore usage either.  The original Xbox was a wonderful piece of equipment, but it cost them 6 billion dollars (or more) to try and create it.  The way this entire Xbox One reveal has been rushed has to concern you with how many other aspects of the console have been rushed.

Gaming is expensive, but regardless it's a cheaper entry cost.  Always a better investment to buy low if you're unsure of what you're purchasing.

As for the popularity?  Simply, in every aspect.  He's more likely to know someone with a PS4 (If the Pre-order numbers are true) than an Xbox One.  That's in addition to a more robust online community I would imagine and every PS4 will be equipped with a headset now, so any pre-existing arguments against PS3 are pretty moot in that aspect.  Obivously,  it's irrelevant long term but short term it's just as important as 'Launch games'.
