Mobile gaming is just so much more accessible since phones are necessary while 3DS and Vita aren't. People who want better experiences like me get this handhelds too and i'm sure there is a market for us. 3DS thinks so anyway and i think Vita can prove itself still.
And yes i tried mobile gaming (on an ipod touch) and for the most part it is utterly shit. I guess the PSP spoilt me. |
When did you try it? As it really isn't utter shit at all.
Sure you have casual games that are great with touch screens and fun in their own right... things like Angry Birds, jetpack Joyride, Temple Run, Rayman Jungle Run.
But you have "core" gaming titles as well that have controller support and equal anything you will find on PSP or 3DS...stuff like GTA Vice city (PC port), Max Payne (PC prot), Xcom (HD console port), various Sonic games (same games as on PSN/XBL), Limbo, Crazy Taxi, Need For speed Most Wanted, Riptide and sequels, Dead Trigger, Dead Space, Infinity Blade 2... are all awesome games.

I tried Angry Birds and i really don't see the appeal there. And yeah i know some older games got released on it but they didn't seem to translate to touch as well as i liked. I guess games like GTA 3 and Max Payne are best not played on a 3.5 inch screen where you can only use touch controls. I think the Vita got the perfect mix between touch controls and buttons. And yeah there are some good mobile games but they are nearly all let down by one thing. The controls. This is why dedicated handhelds are still better.

Dedicated controls for Android/iOS eh?
