I would say right now is worst period because we have new systems out.  When you see titles (however excellent they may be) that could be done on current tech or even ten year old tech you ask "why do I need a PS4 or X1 for that?"  Early in a  generation many want that show piece title to justify their major initial investment.

I agree and hope gaming does see game evaluated on various metrics rather than just graphics.  Dragon's Crown look beautfiul to me, yet I heard multiple times how because it was old style beat 'em up it should be $20 day one while a mediocre polygon based game gets a free pass on perceived value.
