The student in the second row, fourth column illustrates my reaction.
I believe the story that the students agreed to wear them (there's one that made the band into a crown!) but I don't think it's doing anything else than being annoying.
Just look at the second column, near the end there's one that is clearly looking to his/her left... that or the exam is going so wrong that he/she doesn't even want to see it.
