I almost always look at the reviews of something before purchasing, but not so much the scores. That said, I do thing scores can be useful. I've found that while meta scores are not a accurate rating of how much I will enjoy a game, they do a good job of indicating the overall quality of it (if you give around a 10 point leniency).
