I think GTA IV was rated as highly as it was because reviewers let hype cloud their judgement. In 2008 there was no bigger property than GTA, not even COD. It was a pretty much universally loved property. The only game that could even come close to generating that level of hype back then would've been Halo 3, but even then it paled in comparison. GTA IV was feuled by hype and few reviewers actually sat down to judge the game on its merit.
Hopefully with GTA V reviewers will judge the game on merit. I've pretty much made up my mind that I'm going to get the game either way but whether I get it week one or later (used or price drops) depends on whether the reviews tell me the GTA IV problems are fixed. I'll probably just listen to user reviews this time around.
