Don't remember this game, but i have to think this would be a $9.99 digital only type game. Most of the N64 games seemed like the tablet games of today - short play periods with little substance. Again, don't remember this particular title.

You didn't play many N64 games, did you?

On topic:

I love the game but I don't think a sequel would do well in today's console space unless it were a cheap digital downloadable title.  And even then I have reservations that they'd actually be able to recreate the sublime gameplay the original offered.

I wondered how long it would take for someone to get their cackles raised.

The short answer is that i played a lot of them for short periods of time (except Mario Kart -still playing and GoldenEye).  It's all about preferences and most of my time when N64 was launched was spent working or playing on a PC.  Shortly after the launch I joined the Marine Corps and didn't always have the ability to have a console with me.  But, it was easy to bring PC software along and use a PC here or there...  For some reason, the Genesis was the hot thing on the base in Japan where I was stationed for a couple of years.

Then it's probably not a good idea to generalize the entire catalog based on your intentional play style towards those games...or any games.  It's not about getting cackles raised, it's about correcting a patently incorrect statement.    The N64 didn't have very many short burst play period games (though it was loaded pretty good with racing games which can naturally be played in short bursts).   Those style games were still largely reserved for handhelds and arcade titles.   They didn't really hit the home consoles in a big way until the Wii.

US bases in Japan (and other OCONUS locations) were largely extensions of the US market or at least certain licensed distributors.  This often led to some strange popularizations of games, music and movies.  It was more about what was most avialable than actual demand.   When where you stationed there?
