Sarcasm aside, the PSvita and 3DS launched at the same price, someone who bought a 3DS at launch can not then turn around and say the PSvita is expensive, because if the PSvita is expensive for all that it is, then what does that make the launch 3DS, a rip off? Also you make it seem that having a portable home console is a bad thing, as if no one would want to play home console games on the go, and yet the 3DS and WiiU share almost identical first party library. So is this a bad thing? hell no, there is nothing wrong with having portable versions of home console games. There are gamers who predominantly game on home console and a little on handhelds, and there are others who game predominantly on handhelds and a little on home consoles, so having similar games on both benifits both type of gamers, it's a win-win for all. But if you think otherwise, I suppose that is your prerogative. |
Funny that you mention 3DS's price was a rip off at launch when compared to Vita, except you're ignoring the release dates of each console and instead making it seem that both the 3DS and Vita released at the same time. 3DS launched at february 2011, similar date of release to the original Galaxy SII, which was the top-end hardware at the time. Let's compare the hardware: both have dual-core CPUs, similar main screen resolution(800x240 3DS vs 800x480 Galaxy SII), with 3DS's GPU actually producing better looking games than any competitor's hardware at the time, it also had 3D on the screen. Just like Vita did at the beggining of 2012, except at, at this time, we already had quad-core smartphones on the market(LG Optimus HD 4x) and better GPUs at the market. Both were high-end(or almost) hardware at their respective time frames. If you ignore release dates, though, I can see why someone would call 3DS's launch price a rip-off. Except that it actually wasn't, and the price-drop Nintendo did was at the right time, since by July smartphones were already more powerful and cheaper than a 3DS.
