Nintendo is taking it's loyal fans for a ride.

So giving its fans what the want is taking them for a ride now?

So it's fans wanted an underpowered handwith with a low resultion and low DPI screen, with a gimmick which steals about 50% of the GPUs power to generate a 3D effect which if not used is wasted, is this what the fans actually wanted?

Don't get me wrong, I know the fans wanted the mario and zelda games, and Nintendo is giving them this much. I just figured that in terms of hardware, these fans would have perhaps wanted more capable machine, say on the level of the PSvita, especially considering that the initial cost of the PSvita and 3DS was the same.

So in regards to hardware, yes Nintendo has taken it's fan for a ride, it 'could' have provided better hardware but because they dominate the hardware market with no serious competition it choose not too, and because it dominates the handheld market it by default gets most all games in effect forcing people who simply follow the games to purchase inferior hardware at a premium with no real option, this is why I am a proponent of good healthy competition.

Now had the PSvita and 3DS been about neck and neck in sales with a gap of 5Million, then what we would actually see is more people buying multiplatform games on the PSvita over the 3DS, with the 3DS making up the software sales through strong first party games,  just like we see on the home console. I know it's just a hypothetical, but I do believe that given time Nintendo will lose it's handheld dominance, after all, all great empires come to an end. I just hope that when it happens, the void is not perminantly filled with IOS/Android no button handheld gaming.
