The 3DS to Japan is more like what the 360/PS3 are to the West. It's the "standard" core gaming console in Japan, it just so happens in Japan the home console concept is basically gone. The 3DS fills that void.

3DS can't even fill in the handheld void left from the DS and PSP.. it's pretty sad:
