Sony has the better gaming vision, but not for the reasons you mention. They are much more focused on the games, whereas MS made it pretty clear they are about the TV, Skype and controlling the living room.
When it comes to the digital library and DRM stuff they are probably not that different in their goals. Sony is doing it by adding value with backwards compatibility and more devices, but Gaikai is still pretty much their DRM. You only get these benefits by going for their digital copies.
MS however tried to brute force it by taking away options and forcing everyone to essentially have digital copies, but if they had made it optional it would have been seen as a good thing. Their issue wasn't the idea, just the way they rushed everyone into it (probably to try and keep ahead of Sony after the Gaikai purchase).
