Remember playing on the PS2, and then opening your shiney new Xbox 360 and popping in Gears of War? I'm not quite seeing the same kinda leap here. This still looks very much like last-gen territory to me. When I enter into a new console generation I'm looking for things that simply wouldn't be possible on previous consoles. Sure, the smoke and particle effects are nice, but they don't even come close to the smoke and particle effects seen in the Elemental tech-demo. The dynamic lighting I don't think is even quite dynamic as when he throws his fire balls it seems that the light emitted is pre-determined to cast certain ways on the environment and himself. Take a look at 2:05 and see the way the light reacts on the security guard.
Where is that leap that I'm looking for? I haven't found it with this game as of yet. The leap that I'm looking for? I think the elemental tech demo is a good place to start, and if we can arrive at some point where the original Deep Down trailer is what we can expect to see in real time, it'd be then where I'd be satisfied that we've made the generational leap. This game looks like an evolution but more along the lines of a micro and not at the macro level.
I don't know why people tell me to get a life. I'm a gamer, I have lots of lives!
