Developers and publishers ran out of ideas. Look at State of Decay.
Undead Lab made a wonderful game with an "outdated graphics" and on a budget with a small team.
I haven't enjoyed a game like this in a while despite it's obvious flaws. It's not necessary a triple A budget to satisfy gamers.
Xbox Live Arcade has a wonderful game collection that just needs to add more RPG and sports titles(soccer) to be the best location to get games.
