jesus christ this damn memory card thing again.
Do you not buy a console because a first party harddrive costs way more than it should? At least 40m xbox360 owners say "no".
The fact is, nobody realizes the memory card is a cost. They go there ready to buy the console and then buy a card once they figure out what they can do with it. This doesn't affect casuals' purchases at all. And if you want to argue that it's keeping away the hardcorez, all you have to do is look at memory card prices on ebay, or whenever there is a memory card sale. There is never an increase in sales. You can get an 8gb for 20 on ebay. 10$ discount, anytime.
It's all about the games. It needs killer apps, and it doesn't have them. Period.
