For those of you old enough to play GTA 1 and GTA 2, how popular was the series then before GTA 3?

GTA2 man...such memories playing that game. The music was fantastic, a tradition they've kept throughout the series.

The series might not have been huge then, but it was simpler and more fun in some ways.
