Games like Ni No Kuni and Xenoblade Chronicles tell me that there still is a thirst for in depth and well crafted RPG's. Western developers have shown their ability to put their slant on the genre and have done quite well. I personally have great hopes for the next generation of RPG's on both handhelds and consoles.
One a side note. Companies like EA who profit off of releasing uncompleted games and charging premium prices for their DLC are most likely the reason people feel the genre is dying.
