Mario by a landslide. He's one of the most iconic characters period and is more recognizable than Mickey Mouse in many countries.
But Pikachu would definitely be in the conversation for second. Don't know why he's not on the poll. Him or Pac-Man for second place. Pac-Man isn't as popular as Pikachu in this day and age, but he's long been associated with video games for just about any casual so it'd be close. Emulated and original versions of Pac-Man on the pc and smartphones are played probably almost as much as Tetris and Solitaire and the Pac-Man music, sound effects, and image are pretty iconic in popular culture.
