Microsoft and Sony didn't copy the Wii right after it came out. What makes you think that, if the Wii U actually ends up doing anything at all, they wouldn't wait again?

This isn't a very good way of trying to rationalize the Wii U's failure up to this point.

Please cool down a bit. I don't think he was trying to rationalize the Wii U's failure. I think he's trying to look at what good (for Nintendo) can come out of a bad first year and just asking for our opinions. After all, he didn't make any points in defense of its failure. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Sony postpone the launch of the PS3 after the Wii was revealed? Next thing we heard, the DualShock3 no longer had vibrational feedback in order for it to have SIXAXIS motion controls.

In response to the OP: No, I don't think it has helped much. If anything, it might cost third party support for the rest of the generation and I think the other 2 companies already decided their market strategies very carefully, and neither is prioritizing motion controls, second screens or any other thing they feel is gimmicky as a major selling point. Even MS isn't pretending that the Kinect 2.0 is a huge selling point. I personally hope they do well, but I think they messed up by not making the system at least a bit more powerful. At least.
