Gitmo costs U.S. $2.7 million per prisoner- We can waste money on whatever we Want!

I'm sure America would be a far better place if it ended it's $700 billion military budget. A lot of domestic areas of spending have been ignored for far too long.

I am certain that we could cut our defense budget in half and still be perfectly fine. Would be a great start! Is 350 billion enough? We already have most of the equipment, so why do we need 700 billion a year? We have the nukes, soldiers, bases, ships, planes, weapons, gear, missiles, etc. What are we still spending 700 billion a year on?

 

To let the contractors and other business off slowly, I suggest we slowly bring it down by half. Maybe over 2-3 years. Don't want to dump a million jobs all at once.

If i was running America i would cut the military budget down to $100 billion but i would cut it gradually over the years. I would close most or all foreign US military bases, cut the nuclear arsenal by half (which is still 4,000 odd nukes) at least, i would stop use of drones out there completely. Just generally take every step to stop America from being world police, the way it was in world politics up until 1914. Powerful but not interfering. For some reason, America still spends on military like it's the cold war still. But, with such a high ownership of guns, why does America need an army? 

All that money saved could benefit America's in many ways. It would modernise America's public education system, help find a healthcare solution for all, help pay to fix and improve the aging infrastructure and help reduce the obscenely large debt. Even cutting the budget by half, would help.
