Hi Dude, this is too much. Don't make yourself be the target of shooting from Sony fans... I think PS3 is leading X360 worldwide shipment figure, but the gap is quite smaller than we thought... |
I even did some math...the numbers in question where Sony combined PS2+PS3 before they discontinued PS2 are from April 2012 to March 2013...
During that year they shipped 16.5m PS2+PS3.
The prior year, from April 2011 to March 2012, they shipped 13.9m PS3.
So we can compare, Apr 11-Mar 12 vs Apr 12-Mar 13. What was happening to recorded PS3 sales in that time? They were falling, of course. So it's a certainty they also shipped less PS3.
Lets say they shipped about 10% less PS3 than the year prior. So, .9X13.9 gives us 12.5m PS3.
Add that to the 63.9m already shipped, plus the 1.1 just reported, you get 77.5m LTD.
360 LTD is currently 78.2. PS3 is behind.
And that's an extremely rosy assesment of PS3 sales! The likelyhood is that PS3 sales/shipments declined YoY Apr 2012-Mar 2013, much more than 10%. How can we tell? well we go to recorded sales. For this post I just took the quickest easiest one I could grab, NPD. What does it show? From April 11-March 12 PS3 sold 4,385,000 in NPD. From April 12-March 13 in NPD, PS3 sold 3,234,000. So we have a recorded sales decline in one of the largest markets, of about 26%. MUCH greater than the 10% figure that STILL leaves PS3 behind.
Now it'd be time consuming, but one could also check media create, amnd even by way of Nintendo slides, do a YoY Europe sales comparison. I am sure the PS3's sales decline is significantly more than 10% in both those, but even if it wasn't, PS3 WOULD STILL BE BEHIND.
360 has shipped sold more than PS3, more than likely (probably something like more than 99% likely). The only way PS3 is ahead is if it saw YoY shipment declines of less than 5%, while at the same times it's recorded sales in tracked markets where declining much much more than that.
